When looking at the distribution of foreign direct investments by region during this period, Europe ranked first with 21 billion 290 million dollars. Europe was followed by Asia with 6 billion 867 million dollars, the Near and Middle East with 4 billion 374 million dollars, the Gulf with 3 billion 152 million dollars, and the Americas with 3 billion 102 million dollars.
THE NETHERLANDS IS IN FIRST PLACE
When looking at the distribution of foreign direct investments by country, the Netherlands ranked first with 4 billion 438 million dollars. Investments from the Netherlands accounted for 14.6 percent of total foreign investments. Direct investments by Dutch investors in Turkey were 1 billion 169 million dollars in 2019, 598 million dollars in 2020, 749 million dollars in 2021, 788 million dollars in 2022, and 1 billion 134 million dollars in 2023.
In the 2019-2023 period, investments by investors from the UK in Turkey amounted to 3 billion 463 million dollars, while 2 billion 903 million dollars in investment came from the USA. Investments of 2 billion 892 million dollars from Germany, 2 billion 49 million dollars from Spain, and 1 billion 858 million dollars from Switzerland followed, respectively.
Direct investments by non-residents in Turkey in January of this year amounted to 399 million dollars. The USA stood out as the country from which the most direct investment came to Turkey in January. In January, US investors made 174 million dollars in investments in Turkey, German investors 66 million dollars, British investors 47 million dollars, and investors from the Netherlands and Spain 17 million dollars. Foreign investors preferred to invest most in the manufacturing sector during the 2019-2023 period. Foreign investments in the manufacturing sector totaled 7 billion 869 million dollars.
INVESTMENT MADE IN MINING AND QUARRYING SECTOR
During this period, 7 billion 650 million dollars were invested in the wholesale and retail trade sector, and 4 billion 864 million dollars were invested in the financial and insurance activities sector. The sectors most preferred by foreign investors in January of this year were mining and quarrying with 167 million dollars, manufacturing with 87 million dollars, and wholesale and retail trade with 59 million dollars. 49 million dollars of the investment in the manufacturing sector was recorded as the manufacture of computers, electrical-electronic, and optical products. Of the 744 companies with foreign partnership capital established in January of this year, 457 were established with Turkish partners, 37 with Iranian, 22 with German, 15 with Azerbaijani, 15 with Chinese, and 15 with Russian Federation partners.
