Expected discount on diesel will not be reflected at the pump
Although a 2.16 TL discount on diesel is set to take effect at midnight, there will be no change in fuel prices as an equivalent increase in the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) will be applied under the sliding-scale system.

Following consecutive price hikes throughout the week, diesel prices saw a total increase of 5 lira and 15 kuruş. However, as a result of developments in international markets, the price per ton of diesel has fallen slightly. Consequently, it was reported that a discount of 2.16 TL per liter on diesel would be implemented starting at midnight tonight. Drivers, however, will not be able to benefit from this discount.
Industry representatives stated that, in accordance with a decision published in the Official Gazette at the beginning of the month, any expected discount on fuel prices will be automatically added to the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) under the sliding-scale system. Thus, the price reduction will return to the treasury as additional tax, and there will be no price drop at the pump.
In recent days, the US attack on Iran and Russia's decision to ban diesel exports negatively affected Brent crude oil prices, causing diesel prices to rise. As a result, the price of diesel in Turkey was hiked three times in a row. However, with the recent fluctuations in global markets, a slight easing in prices has begun to be observed.
Experts noted that the state's current ÖTV deduction on diesel is at the 10 TL level, and this amount will fall below 8 TL as of midnight. It was reported that in the future, when these deductions drop to zero, discounts will be reflected in the pump price.
According to the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, if there is an increase in refinery exit prices, an ÖTV reduction of 50 percent of this increase will be applied until July 31. Between August 1 and September 30, an ÖTV reduction of 25 percent of the increase will be applied. As of October 1, 2026, the sliding-scale system will end completely. When a decline is observed in refinery prices, additional ÖTV will be collected equal to the full amount of the discount.
For this reason, the expectation of a discount in fuel prices will not be reflected at the pump for the time being.
