Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan had stated that there would be only one minimum wage increase in 2024.

Following the raise applied to the minimum wage at the start of the new year, the question of whether there will be a second mid-year hike is now being debated, and journalist Fatih Portakal has put forward a claim that is set to spark much discussion.

Statements from the government had indicated that there would not be a second raise.

Fatih Portakal shared the claim that a second minimum wage hike would take place during a live broadcast and announced the date being discussed.

STATEMENT ON HOLIDAY BONUS

Stating that there could also be an increase in the amount of the holiday bonus to be given to retirees, Portakal said the following:

"Retirees are, of course, dreaming of 3,000 TL, but look now. That draft law is in Parliament; it is expected to be approved this week, but there could be a surprise. You might ask 'like what?' Perhaps the 3,000 TL bonus could be raised a notch.

MINIMUM WAGE CLAIM

A second thing is being discussed. Şeref Oğuz stated that a second hike in the minimum wage could come in June."

IŞIKHAN HAD SAID "THERE WILL BE A SINGLE RAISE"

On November 21 of last year, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan had conveyed the following:

“As in July, our principle is again not to let [workers] be crushed by inflation. As you know, the minimum wage was always once a year. We are working on the basis that there will be a single raise again."
