The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) meeting is approaching, and ahead of the announcement of the Fed members' interest rate projections, leading U.S. investment banks have shared their own forecasts.
EXPECTATIONS LOWERED
Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan have lowered their expectations regarding the number of interest rate cuts they anticipate from the Fed this year.
Goldman Sachs has revised its expectation of four 25-basis-point interest rate cuts this year down to three cuts, totaling 75 basis points.
DUE TO INFLATION
Citing a slight rise in the inflation path as the reason for lowering its expectations, Goldman Sachs maintained its forecast for four rate cuts in 2025 while also emphasizing that one rate cut is expected in 2026.
JPMorgan also lowered its total interest rate cut expectation for 2024 from 125 basis points to 75 basis points.
