By the decision of the Plastic Bag Commission of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, plastic bags were made subject to a fee starting January 1, 2019, in order to prevent waste pollution. The practice of selling plastic bags at markets and shopping centers for the 25 kuruş fee determined by the Ministry continues.

PLASTIC BAG COMMISSION TO MEET

The Plastic Bag Commission will meet today with the participation of relevant public institutions and organizations, as well as representatives of associations and federations operating in the sector, to determine the price of plastic bags to be applied in the new year.

The meeting at the General Directorate of Environmental Management will be attended by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), the Turkish Plastics Industry Foundation (PAGEV), and consumer and retailer associations, who will present their views.

In line with these views, a presentation is expected to be made to the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum.

With the approval of Minister Kurum, the new year's sales price for plastic bags will be determined.

The practice of charging for plastic bags aims to prevent unnecessary use of plastic bags and to curb the visual and environmental pollution caused by plastic shopping bags, an issue that is treated with sensitivity all over the world.
