Fishing ban begins in the seas
The 2023-2024 fishing season, which began on September 1, 2023, ended today. The fishing ban in the seas will cover commercial fishing vessels. Small-scale coastal fishermen will be exempt from the ban.

The fishing season has ended. During the 4.5-month fishing ban period covering commercial fishing vessels, certain conditions have been introduced for fishermen who wish to continue their economic activities.
Accordingly, with permission obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, fishing may be conducted using purse seine and trawling methods in international waters outside territorial waters.
Small-scale coastal fishermen will be exempt from the ban and will be able to continue fishing.
According to information provided by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, the season was productive in terms of the hunting of many species, especially anchovies.
78 VESSELS CONFISCATED
Inspections were carried out to protect the rights of fishermen who fish in accordance with the law. Last year, 171,219 inspections were conducted. 593 tons of aquatic products obtained through illegal fishing were confiscated.
78 vessels that did not fish in accordance with the rules were confiscated, and their ownership was transferred to the public.
Minister Yumaklı noted that new sustainability-based rules will be implemented for the upcoming season within the framework of the protection-use balance.
