In the early days of the week, world markets are being watched closely due to escalating tensions in West Asia. With sharp fluctuations occurring particularly in oil prices, financial analyst İslam Memiş evaluated the latest developments in gold and oil. Stating that the data flow has been weak recently, Memiş noted that markets are largely moving under the influence of political news coming from the region.
In a television program he attended, Memiş said that the global data agenda would be quiet this week and that the main determining factor in the markets would again be developments originating from West Asia. Reminding that the opening and subsequent closing of the Strait of Hormuz directly affected the markets, the expert emphasized that while gains were seen on Friday, the week has been marked by sales.
LIMITED DECLINE IN OIL AND GOLD, RAPID RECOVERY POSSIBLE
Evaluating the instantaneous changes in Brent oil, Memiş stated that there were significant declines approaching 9 percent in the price per barrel in recent days, and that the week began with an increase of around 4 percent. Saying, "We are currently at the 96.5 dollar level. 97-98 dollars stand out as resistance, while 94 dollars stands out as support" for Brent oil, Memiş shared that prices are moving within specific ranges and that he does not expect a very deep wave of selling.
Activity also prevails in the gold market. Stating that the ounce of gold is at 4788 dollars, Memiş assessed, "4740 dollars is the support level for the ounce of gold; there is a possibility of a recovery from here. The current sales may not be permanent this week."
According to İslam Memiş, who says that markets react quickly to geopolitical events during periods when economic data flow is low, the tension between America and Iran and news from West Asia play a dominant role in pricing.
MANIPULATION WARNING FOR 2026
Regarding the year 2026 specifically, Memiş expressed that the narrative of a "year of manipulation" has begun to spread among market participants. Pointing out that fluctuations may come to the fore in the short term, the expert is of the opinion that the main trend is one of gradual normalization. Emphasizing that there is potential for a rapid recovery, Memiş added that positive news could cause sharp reflections in prices.
