The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) announced yesterday that it has kept the interest rate at 45 percent. Dr. Şeref Oğuz made evaluations regarding the interest rate decision to ekonomim. In his assessment, Oğuz also touched upon the CBRT's reserves.
Oğuz noted the following in his assessment:
"The Central Bank has taken a break from its interest rate hike cycle. Now, all eyes are on the impact on foreign currency. The Central Bank has no weapons left other than its reserves to keep the exchange rate within the shores of interest rates. If you do not have an active policy to manage the exchange rate, the reins may slip from your hands. Today, I am drawing attention to the warning from Barış Esen on Haber Masası: If you leave the Lira exposed, foreign currency will inevitably be provoked. Let us not become dollarized while trying to 'liralize'," he stated.
