Famous economist gives a date, saying 'There will be an increase in the minimum wage!' 'There are 4-5 studies on the table...'

Economist and economic newspaper columnist Şeref Oğuz has revealed critical inside information from Ankara political circles regarding the minimum wage.

Pointing out that the minimum wage has fallen below the hunger threshold announced by the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ), Şeref Oğuz stated, "They are forced to make an increase," and continued as follows:

"A WOUNDED GAZELLE RUNS UNTIL IT REALIZES IT IS DEAD"

"The government received a warning from the public in the local elections. Its existence has become a matter of debate. People cannot endure until 2028; they will melt away. In fact, observers give the following example: you shoot a gazelle, and the wounded gazelle runs until it realizes it is dead. The ruling power is in a 'lame duck' situation, to use the term from the US. It is facing the loss of its base. It has fallen to the position of the second party. The minimum wage will have to be increased anyway due to the reactions that will come from the public and unemployment."

"THE DECISION ON THE MINIMUM WAGE LIES WITH ERDOĞAN, NOT MINISTER ŞİMŞEK"

Evaluating the statements that there will be no raise in the minimum wage, Şeref Oğuz commented: "Although Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek is strongly opposed to this, the President will have the final say. The minimum wage is outside the scope of Mehmet Şimşek and other ministers. This matter is entirely under the authority of President Erdoğan. Meanwhile, instead of increasing the coefficient for civil servants, you would be loading the burden of relieving society by increasing the minimum wage onto the private sector. The view that 'the private sector should finance this' prevails. There is a Silifke folk song that goes, 'let everyone eat and drink from their own purse, I have my own reign'..."

WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE INCREASED?

Pointing out that the government has 4-5 different studies on the minimum wage on its table, Şeref Oğuz spoke as follows:

"I expect an increase in the minimum wage in the third quarter. It might be left until September. I have received inside information that such calculations are being made; inflation will drop by 20-22 points due to the base effect, and they will make an adjustment to the minimum wage after that.

"This will also relieve the employer, and at the same time, they will be able to say, 'Look, we have raised the minimum wage.' There are 4-5 studies on the table. They are creating options for President Erdoğan."
