WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE ANNOUNCED?
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which held its first meeting on December 10, its second on December 16, and its third on December 19, hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, will hold its fourth meeting this week.
The Commission is expected to determine the new minimum wage figure at the final meeting to be held on Tuesday or Wednesday.
POSSIBLE RAISE SCENARIOS
While TÜRK-İŞ's wage demand represents a 74 percent increase, when considering some of the raise scenarios that have come to the public agenda, the estimated figures projected for the new minimum wage are calculated as follows:
"In case of a 30 percent raise, a net of 22,103 liras
In case of a 35 percent raise, a net of 22,953 liras
In case of a 40 percent raise, a net of 23,803 liras
In case of a 45 percent raise, a net of 24,653 liras
In case of a 50 percent raise, a net of 25,503 liras."
HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?
The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 people in total, with five representatives each from workers, employers, and the government, as required by law.
The commission meets on dates determined in December to set the new minimum wage. The commission, chaired by one of the members appointed by the Ministry, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote. In the event of a tie in votes, the side that includes the chairperson is considered to be in the majority.
The current minimum wage is applied as a net of 17,002 liras.
The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer for one worker is 23,502 liras and 94 kuruş. Of this, 20,002 liras and 50 kuruş constitute the gross minimum wage, 3,100 liras and 39 kuruş constitute the social security premium, and 400 liras and 5 kuruş constitute the employer's unemployment insurance fund.
