The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the inflation data for the March 2026 period, also revealing the data to be used in calculating rent increase rates.
While annual inflation in March was determined to be 30.87 percent, the rent increase rate for homes and workplaces was set at 32.82 percent.
MARCH INFLATION FIGURES ANNOUNCED
According to the data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) for March, consumer prices increased by 1.94 percent compared to the previous month, while annual inflation was recorded at 30.87 percent.
This figure determined the rent increase rate for homes and workplaces. Based on calculations made using March inflation data, the rent increase for residential and commercial properties in April has been set at 32.82 percent. Last month, the rent increase rate was 33.39 percent.
The increase rate for residential rents is determined according to the 12-month averages of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) announced by TÜİK.
Landlords can apply a rent increase that does not exceed this rate.
For example, if a rent increase is to be applied in October, the increase rate is calculated by looking at the 12-month averages from September.
HOW IS THE INCREASE IN WORKPLACE RENTS DETERMINED?
Rent increases for workplaces can be applied up to the rate specified in the contract. If the contract states that an increase will be made according to the indices announced by TÜİK, the rent increase rate is calculated based on the change rate of the relevant index announced by TÜİK for the month preceding the month in which the increase is to be applied. For workplaces as well, the rent hike cannot exceed the determined rate.
Residential and commercial property owners will transition to new payment periods according to their contracts with the new rent increase that will be valid in April.
