Minimum Wage Determination Commission meets today! How much will the minimum wage be? What figures are on the table?

The process for determining the new minimum wage, which directly concerns nearly 7 million employees and indirectly affects the entire society, officially begins today.

WHAT TIME IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINATION COMMISSION MEETING?

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which millions of employees who did not receive a raise in July have their eyes and ears turned toward, will meet today (December 10) at 16:00.

PARTIES IN THE COMMISSION

The commission, to be hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, will be chaired by Deputy Chairman Ramazan Ağar, leading the 5-person Türk-İş delegation representing the workers. As in previous years, the delegation will include 4 workers.

The workers will be represented at the table by chef Selma Sayın, hairdresser Nihan Koçak, subcontractor worker Durmuş Öztürk, and journalist Sezer Özseven.

FIGURES ON THE TABLE FOR THE MINIMUM WAGE

According to the probable scenarios regarding the minimum wage, the figures are expected to take shape as follows:

"If a 20 percent raise is applied, the minimum wage will be 20,402 liras.

If a 25 percent raise is applied, the minimum wage will be 21,252 liras.

If a 30 percent raise is applied, the minimum wage will be 22,102 liras.

If a 35 percent raise is applied, the minimum wage will be 22,502 liras.

If a 40 percent raise is applied, the minimum wage will be 23,802 liras."

ALL EYES ON TÜRK-İŞ'S DEMAND

While TÜRK-İŞ, which represents workers in the minimum wage negotiations, has not yet shared its demand for the new minimum wage with the public, the statement by President Ergün Atalay that neither the inflation realized in 2024 nor the inflation expected for 2025 is acceptable for the minimum wage increase draws attention.

TİSK, representing employers, is of the opinion that the new minimum wage should be at a balanced level that protects employment and competitiveness.

WHAT DID ERDOĞAN SAY ABOUT THE MINIMUM WAGE?

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his statement regarding the minimum wage following the Cabinet Meeting held yesterday (December 9), said, "The Minimum Wage Determination Commission begins its negotiations starting tomorrow. I hope the process will be carried out with an understanding that both considers the expectations of our employees and does not place an excessive burden on our country's economy."

POLITICAL PARTIES' MINIMUM WAGE PROPOSALS

While the commission is expected to meet, political parties have also announced their minimum wage expectations. Here are the minimum wage demands of politicians:

CHP: WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING BELOW 30,000 TL

Announcing his party's expectation for the minimum wage hike, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated, "Our minimum wage demand is 30,000 TL. We will not accept anything below this figure. We will continue to object and fight. We will make this country difficult for you."

DEM PARTY: IT SHOULD BE AT LEAST 35,000 TL

DEM Party Co-Chairman Tuncer Bakırhan said regarding the minimum wage, "For the first time in the world, we are facing a government that offers hunger to its people, laborers, and employees. They are offering us hunger. They are not offering us anything. However, we will not waste our future by relying on your estimates. Our party's stance on the minimum wage is clear. Minimum wage earners should receive a wage that allows them to live humanely. The minimum wage should be at least 35,000 liras and should be updated and increased twice a year."

İYİ PARTY: 28,000 TL, PROVIDED THERE IS A MID-YEAR ADJUSTMENT

İYİ Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu announced a figure on the condition of a mid-year adjustment. Dervişoğlu stated, "Taking the situation of employers into account, the net minimum wage for the first half of 2025 should be at least 28,000 liras, provided it is increased again in July. Any wage below this is an injustice to the Turkish nation. It is our duty to hold those responsible for this injustice accountable."

FUTURE PARTY (GELECEK PARTİSİ): AT LEAST 33,337 TL

Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu emphasized that the minimum wage, currently at 17,002 liras, has eroded to 11,250 liras in real terms. Davutoğlu stated that the figure for the minimum wage should be at least 33,337 liras. Davutoğlu said, "Only if you provide 33,337 liras will you prevent the minimum wage earner from being crushed by inflation."

NEW WELFARE PARTY (YENİDEN REFAH PARTİSİ): 35,000 TL

New Welfare Party Deputy Chairman Suat Kılıç stated that the minimum wage should be 35,000 liras in the new year.
