Millions of employees who did not receive an interim salary increase in July have turned their eyes and ears to the 2025 minimum wage hike.
As we head toward the end of the year, there is great curiosity about what the new minimum wage will be.
The commission to be formed for the determination of the minimum wage will begin its work in December.
Economist Mahfi Eğilmez announced his forecast regarding the minimum wage increase during a program he attended. Speaking on CNBC-e, Eğilmez stated the following:
"We are trying to solve inflation through wages. Currently, 30-35 percent seems likely for the minimum wage. If we had adjusted everything according to 35, we could have said we would also set the revaluation at 35 percent.
But now it has become 43.93 percent. It would be unfair to wage earners. When you increase wages by the rate of inflation, you are just bringing them back to their previous position."
THE APPEAL OF THE TL WILL INCREASE
Stating that the appeal of the Turkish Lira (TL) will increase, Eğilmez continued:
"The Turkish Lira will continue to remain valuable. People have turned away from foreign currency. It has come down from 140 billion dollars to under 40 billion dollars. This is very natural because the interest rate is 50 percent.
The exchange rate is not rising, partly due to this shift. When the exchange rate does not change, this turns into a dollar interest rate. In that case, the appeal of the TL increases."
