New minimum wage statement from Minister Işıkhan: Possible raise rates for 2025

Ahead of the critical meeting to be held on December 10, it was stated that the government aims to increase the minimum wage to a level that will protect it against inflation with the contributions of both the worker and employer sides. An increase between 25% and 35% is expected for the 2025 minimum wage. The net minimum wage is estimated to be between 21,253 TL and 22,953 TL.

MINIMUM WAGE STATEMENT FROM MINISTER IŞIKHAN
In his statements to Ekonomi, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan emphasized that both the worker and employer sides are taken into account in the minimum wage negotiations.
Pointing to their approach of “not letting citizens be crushed by inflation,” Işıkhan said, “We are convening the Minimum Wage Determination Commission on December 10 to determine the 2025 minimum wage. We will strive for a figure that will not let our citizens be crushed by inflation and will be a common figure that will be to the maximum benefit of our workers and employers.”
Reminding that the 2024 minimum wage, which is currently in effect and came into force on January 1, was determined with a 49 percent net increase compared to 2023, Işıkhan commented, “We had determined the minimum wage to be applied for the January-December 2024 period as 17,002.12 TL net. Thus, a 49 percent increase was made in the net minimum wage compared to the previous period. The net minimum wage, which was 184.25 TL in 2002, became 17,002.12 TL in 2024. During this period, the net minimum wage was increased nominally by up to 92 times in 2024 compared to 2002. In this context, a 309 percent increase was realized in real terms in the net minimum wage in 2024 compared to 2002. As of October 2024, a 212 percent increase was realized in real terms in 2024 compared to 2002.”
Stating, “Especially for the last 3 years, we have stood by our citizens by increasing the minimum wage well above the inflation rate,” Işıkhan emphasized that workers are supported with employment and social security premium subsidies, and that their effectiveness is increased by making changes according to the results.
