There are preparations for a regulation regarding retiree holiday bonuses. However, considering budget balances, it is stated that the increase rates will be kept limited. According to sources, it was emphasized that the bonuses would not exceed 4,000 TL.
According to a report by Habertürk, last year, retirees were paid 3,000 TL in holiday bonuses for each of the two religious holidays. This year, while retirees were expecting a bonus of at least 5,000 TL, government sources indicate that such an increase will not take place.
MILLIONS OF RETIREES ARE WAITING EAGERLY
More than 16 million retirees, while waiting for their new salaries following the raises made at the beginning of this year, have focused on holiday bonuses. Retirees are impatiently waiting for the bonus amounts to be announced before Ramadan Bayram. Retirees struggling with the cost of living are demanding that the government take action on this issue.
This year, Ramadan Bayram will be celebrated on March 30, and Eid al-Adha on June 6. The regulation regarding the bonuses requires a legal process, and the legislative proposal on the Parliament's agenda is expected to be enacted.
HOW MUCH WILL RETIREE HOLIDAY BONUSES BE IN 2025?
Government officials state that there is no definitive study regarding retiree holiday bonuses, but that this issue will be evaluated during the process. In a regulation to be made with the intervention of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it is predicted that the bonuses could be increased to a maximum of 4,000 TL.
If this increase occurs, it is calculated that a total resource of 128 billion TL will be required for the two holidays. It is stated that the resource could be allocated from the budget or that external borrowing could be resorted to.
A 500 TL INCREASE IS EXPECTED
Within the government, there is a consensus on making a 500 TL increase in retiree bonuses. Last year, the Treasury resorted to borrowing while paying the bonuses. It is likely that a similar scenario will come to the agenda this year as well.
If the bonuses are increased to 4,000 TL, retirees will be relieved to some extent, but expectations will not be fully met.
