Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek has announced the average monthly income declarations for 2024 of certain professional groups in order to effectively combat the informal economy.
Speaking on a program he attended on Kanal 7, Şimşek stated that the incomes reported by members of various professions do not reflect their actual earnings. For this reason, he indicated that audits will be further intensified.
Pointing to the low level of declared incomes, Şimşek said, "Moreover, even though these figures have increased due to the audits we have conducted, the picture is still like this. In 2023, these figures were much more symbolic."
The average monthly income declarations of the professional groups were listed as follows:
Actor, actress, stunt performer: 157 thousand 265 TL
Musician, vocalist, presenter: 136 thousand 900 TL
Pharmacist: 66 thousand 236 TL
Doctor working in a private hospital: 61 thousand 31 TL
Jeweler: 42 thousand 360 TL
Lawyer: 33 thousand 641 TL
Restaurants: 20 thousand 329 TL
Taxi driver: 12 thousand 961 TL
Kiosks: 11 thousand 529 TL
Grocery store/market: 10 thousand 149 TL
Minibus driver: 8 thousand 954 TL
Women's hairdresser: 4 thousand 729 TL
Men's hairdresser: 3 thousand 633 TL
"WE WILL INCREASE THE DOSE" MESSAGE
Şimşek sent a message of determination in the fight against informality, stating, "Think about these figures I mentioned, especially in big cities and tourist areas. A restaurant will operate for a whole month and its average monthly gross income declaration will be 20 thousand 329 liras. Therefore, we will increase the dose even further in the fight against informality."
Stating that technological infrastructure is also being included in this fight, Şimşek expressed that they will undergo a restructuring within the Revenue Administration by utilizing artificial intelligence algorithms. "We will use all the possibilities of technology and strengthen all areas of informality and compliance processes. We will fight against informality," he said.
