What awaits gold in the new year? Beware of the 'golden shot' risk!

Sharp movements in gold prices in the markets have turned investors' attention back to allegations of manipulation. Gold and Money Markets Expert İslam Memiş stated in his assessments that the recent fluctuations were not a coincidence.

Memiş warned investors, especially against short-term and leveraged transactions.

"THE CRASH THAT HAPPENED OVERNIGHT IS NO COINCIDENCE"

Arguing that there is a large-scale manipulation process behind the sudden price drops, Memiş reminded that they had drawn attention to these risks in January. Stating that the ounce of gold rose to 5,600 dollars in a short time, Memiş said that it fell to 4,400 dollars in just two days, citing margin calls and profit-taking as reasons.

He claimed that large capital groups earned approximately 7.5 trillion dollars during this process.

According to the expert's view, it seems likely that similar fluctuations will occur every month throughout 2026. For this reason, Memiş emphasized that instead of short-term profit expectations in gold and silver, the protection of existing assets should be the priority.

Stating that the US–Iran tension, developments in the Middle East, and global political headlines will be frequently used as justifications, Memiş argued that these movements contain systematic guidance.

Stating that the real risk will emerge when the ounce of gold is pushed to the 6,000 dollar level, Memiş expressed that after this point, very sharp sell-offs of approximately 2,000 dollars could come to the agenda. He said that investors should not act with a sense of panic or by thinking in the short term.

Pointing out that the dollar/TL exchange rate in Turkey has been relatively flat, Memiş stated that the movements in gram gold have largely developed depending on the ounce of gold. He reminded that gram gold recently peaked at 8,057 TL and then fell to the 6,668 TL levels.

He conveyed that he foresees a volatile course in the coming period, with gram gold in the 7,000–8,000 TL band and ounce gold in the 4,800–5,200 dollar band.

Stating that it would no longer be a surprise for gram gold to reach the 10,000 TL level throughout the year, Memiş emphasized that despite this, investors should avoid borrowing in gold.

Stating that those who do not have a cash need would be better off postponing housing and vehicle purchases, Memiş said that the rises that may occur in the first half of the year could be evaluated as an opportunity for such purchases.

Stating that possible negotiations between the US and Iran could create short-term effects in the markets, Memiş expressed that he does not believe the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East will end permanently.

Arguing that the possibility of peace is low, Memiş stated that the global system feeds on uncertainty and that manipulations continue in this environment.
