When will the increased holiday bonus payments for retirees be made? Who is eligible to receive the bonus?

The legislative proposal, which was accepted in the Planning and Budget Committee last week, will be addressed in the General Assembly of Parliament this week. If the proposal is approved, the holiday bonus given to retirees will be increased from 3,000 TL to 4,000 TL. Considering that Ramadan Bayram will begin on March 30, the payments are expected to be made before the holiday.

WHO WILL RECEIVE THE HOLIDAY BONUS?

Not only retirees but also certain social security beneficiaries benefit from the holiday bonus. Social Security Consultant Emin Yılmaz stated the following in his remarks to milliyet.com.tr:

“The holiday bonus is paid not only to those receiving a retirement pension but also to those receiving old-age pensions, duty disability pensions, disability pensions, death benefits, and permanent incapacity income. In addition, relatives of martyrs, veterans, combat veterans, security guards, champion athletes, and civilian citizens harmed by terrorism, as well as the beneficiaries of these individuals, also receive the holiday bonus.”

HOW MUCH BONUS WILL THOSE RECEIVING WIDOW'S AND ORPHAN'S PENSIONS RECEIVE?

Beneficiaries of a deceased insured person will receive the holiday bonus according to their share ratios. For example:

If the spouse's share ratio is 50 percent: 2,000 TL

If the orphan child's share ratio is 25 percent: 1,000 TL

According to this calculation, payments will be made based on the share ratio received by the beneficiaries.

WHEN WILL THE PAYMENTS BE MADE?

Looking at practices from previous years, two different payment scenarios stand out:

1. Payment made together with retirement pensions

2. Payment made within the week before the holiday

Following the completion of the parliamentary process, it seems more likely that payments will be made between Monday, March 24, and Friday, March 28. The bonuses are expected to be deposited into accounts before the holiday week begins.
