Google fined 250 million euros

The French Competition Authority has announced that it has fined the Google platform under the 2019 European Union (EU) law regarding the remuneration of used content.

According to a report by Le Figaro, the French Competition Authority decided that Google acted in violation of EU laws as a result of an investigation conducted into content remuneration.

The authority imposed a 250 million euro fine on Google for failing to provide sufficient payment to French publishers whose content it uses.

Google has reached agreements on payment with 450 French publishers to date. Article 15 of the EU's 2019 law grants publishers "neighboring rights," which provide the right to receive fair compensation from platforms for the reuse of their content.

The company is currently battling lawsuits filed in many countries for anti-competitive behavior.
