While the rapid privatization of public assets in recent times remains a subject of debate, the government is planning new steps to increase public support and shift public perception in a positive direction.

The privatization of state-owned real estate continues despite reactions from the opposition. It is noted that through recent zoning regulations, the value of public assets is being increased before they are put up for sale. In the 2025 activity report of the Privatization Administration, while emphasis was placed on the institution's broad powers, flexibility, and certain exemptions, the weakness of public support was particularly highlighted.

The report stated that privatization processes, by their nature, do not garner social support, and therefore, sufficient political backing cannot always be established. The reasons for the negative perception in society were cited as shortcomings such as "the lack of impact analyses and the failure to adequately communicate positive results to the public."

NEW STRATEGY

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, the recommendations section of the activity report emphasized that support will be provided for academic studies highlighting the positive aspects of privatization practices in the coming period, and that regulations made for the public benefit will be given more coverage in the media. In this way, the aim is to shift the public's perspective on privatizations toward a more positive outlook.

Furthermore, the report stated that the sale of companies and real estate in the portfolio, as well as the inclusion of new areas within the scope of privatization, will continue in 2025 and beyond. It was pointed out that their authority to create zoning plans allows them to act quickly and benefit from significant exemptions.

MAJOR SALES APPROVED IN MUŞ

With the Presidential Decrees published in the Official Gazette yesterday, the sale of two properties in the village of Alizurum in Muş, totaling over 37 thousand square meters, was finalized. In parallel, a 5 thousand 976 square meter property was sold for 55.1 million liras, and a 31 thousand 210 square meter property was sold for 249 million liras to Ayboz Sigorta Aracılık Hizmetleri. The sales are considered to be part of the privatization strategy.

The process of transferring public assets and the impact of the government's new steps to change public perception are being followed with interest in the coming period.
