GSS premium debts are being wiped out! Will those who paid get a refund?
With the regulation accepted in the General Assembly of the Parliament, mandatory General Health Insurance (GSS) premium debts from 2014 will be wiped out. The debts of 1 million 784 thousand 614 insured individuals, totaling 2 billion 178 million TL, have been forgiven. This step aims to alleviate the public debt burden of citizens who cannot pay their debts and to facilitate their access to healthcare services.

With the Law on Amendments to the Civil Servants Law and Certain Laws and Decree-Laws, which was accepted and enacted yesterday in the General Assembly of the Parliament, the 2 billion 178 million 88 thousand 879.04 TL debt for the year 2014 belonging to 1 million 784 thousand 614 citizens with mandatory General Health Insurance will be wiped out.
According to information received from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, with the provision aimed at alleviating the public debt burden of insured individuals who cannot pay their mandatory General Health Insurance (GSS) premium debts and facilitating their access to healthcare services, debts for the year 2014 will be written off.
According to the provision included in the law, which also contains regulations regarding civil servants and was accepted and enacted yesterday in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly, the collection of all unpaid GSS premiums belonging to the period before January 1, 2015, as well as their ancillary receivables such as delay penalties and delay interest, will be waived.
Premiums that have been paid for the aforementioned periods until the date the provision is published will not be refunded or offset.
The 2 billion 178 million 88 thousand 879.04 TL debt for the year 2014 of 1 million 784 thousand 614 citizens of the Republic of Turkey with mandatory General Health Insurance will be written off.
