Hüseyin Bayraktar, founder of the Bayraktar Group and Honorary Chairman of Bayraktar Investment Holding, who shaped the retail sector by building Turkey's first shopping mall, Galleria, has passed away at the age of 89.

Hüseyin Bayraktar, the founder of the Bayraktar Group and a pioneering figure in the business world, has passed away at the age of 89. Known as the "father of shopping malls," Bayraktar initiated a new era in shopping culture by bringing Galleria, Turkey's first shopping mall, to life.
HE STARTED AN ERA WITH GALLERIA
Hüseyin Bayraktar, who undertook significant projects in the construction, automotive, and real estate sectors, launched the era of modern shopping malls in Turkey with the Galleria Mall, which opened in Istanbul's Ataköy district in 1988.
Bayraktar also served as the Honorary Chairman of Bayraktar Investment Holding, which operates in the automotive and trade sectors.
Bayraktar's passing was announced to the public through a statement made by Ege Endüstri to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). The statement included the following remarks:
"We have learned with great sadness of the passing of our company's Chairman of the Board, Mr. Hüseyin Bayraktar. We wish him God's mercy and extend our condolences to his grieving family, relatives, and all his loved ones."
WHO IS HÜSEYİN BAYRAKTAR?
Businessperson Hüseyin Bayraktar, who left a lasting mark on Istanbul's urban fabric with the Ataköy Tourism Center, was born in Kayseri in 1936. A graduate of the Istanbul Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences, Bayraktar was the founder of the Ataköy Tourism Center, which included the Holiday Inn, Ataköy Marina, an apartment hotel, and various other units, in addition to Galleria Ataköy, Turkey's first world-class shopping mall.
A founding partner of the Lassa (Brisa) company, Bayraktar also pioneered the retail sector with the Carousel and Outlet Center projects. The experienced businessperson, who served as the Honorary Chairman of Bayraktar Investment Holding A.Ş., which operates in the automotive, real estate, and trade sectors, also held the presidency of TAYSAD – the Automotive Suppliers Association of Turkey – for five years.
Hüseyin Bayraktar was married and a father of three.
