Housing sales decline

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, 93,761 homes were sold across Turkey in October.

Across Turkey, housing sales in October decreased by 8.7% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 93,761. Istanbul held the highest share in housing sales with 14,941 units sold and a 15.9% share. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 7,394 housing sales and a 7.9% share, and Izmir with 5,192 housing sales and a 5.5% share. The provinces with the lowest number of housing sales were Hakkari with 40 homes, Ardahan with 43 homes, and Bayburt with 80 homes, respectively.

HOUSING SALES DECREASED BY 14.3% IN THE JANUARY-OCTOBER PERIOD

Housing sales in the January-October period decreased by 14.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, totaling 993,835.

MORTGAGED HOUSING SALES REACHED 5,577

Across Turkey, mortgaged housing sales in October decreased by 58.0% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 5,577. The share of mortgaged sales within total housing sales was 5.9%. Mortgaged housing sales in the January-October period decreased by 31.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, totaling 166,461.

Of the mortgaged sales in October, 1,369 were first-hand sales; of the mortgaged sales in the January-October period, 50,234 were first-hand sales.

88,184 HOMES CHANGED HANDS THROUGH OTHER TYPES OF SALES

Across Turkey, other housing sales in October decreased by 1.4% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 88,184. The share of other sales within total housing sales was 94.1%. Other housing sales in the January-October period decreased by 9.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, totaling 827,374.

FIRST-HAND HOUSING SALES REACHED 29,230

Across Turkey, the number of first-hand housing sales in October decreased by 10.6% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 29,230. The share of first-hand housing sales within total housing sales was 31.2%. First-hand housing sales in the January-October period decreased by 13.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, totaling 297,827.

64,531 HOMES CHANGED HANDS IN SECOND-HAND HOUSING SALES

Across Turkey, second-hand housing sales in October decreased by 7.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 64,531. The share of second-hand housing sales within total housing sales was 68.8%. Second-hand housing sales in the January-October period decreased by 14.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, totaling 696,008.

2,535 HOMES SOLD TO FOREIGNERS IN OCTOBER

Housing sales to foreigners in October decreased by 52.9% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 2,535. In October, the share of housing sales to foreigners within total housing sales was 2.7%. Antalya took the first place in housing sales to foreigners with 931 units sold. Antalya was followed by Istanbul with 758 housing sales and Mersin with 294 housing sales, respectively.

BY COUNTRY NATIONALITY, THE MOST HOUSING SALES WERE MADE TO CITIZENS OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

In October, citizens of the Russian Federation purchased 713 homes from Turkey. Citizens of the Russian Federation were followed by citizens of Iran with 235 homes, Germany with 152 homes, and Ukraine with 138 homes, respectively.
