Housing sales hit a 21-month high
The Turkish Statistical Institute has announced housing sales statistics for September. A total of 140,919 housing units were sold in September. Istanbul remained the province with the highest number of housing sales, with 21,314 units.

The upward momentum in housing sales has continued. A total of 140,919 housing units were sold in September. Sales increased by 37 percent compared to the same month last year. This marks the highest sales figure recorded since December 2022.
The provinces with the highest number of housing sales were Istanbul with 21,314, Ankara with 13,205, and Izmir with 7,612, while the provinces with the lowest number of sales were Hakkari with 74, Ardahan with 82, and Bayburt with 106.
Housing sales in the January-September period increased by 5.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 947,236.
HOUSING SALES TO FOREIGNERS DECLINED
Housing sales to foreigners decreased by 31 percent in September compared to the same month of the previous year, falling to 2,022.
In September, the share of housing sales to foreigners within total housing sales was 1.4 percent.
The provinces with the highest number of housing sales to foreigners were Istanbul with 783, Antalya with 548, and Mersin with 210.
HIGHEST SALES TO RUSSIANS
Housing sales to foreigners in the January-September period decreased by 39.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 17,090.
By nationality, the highest number of housing sales were made to citizens of the Russian Federation with 346, followed by Iran with 163, and Iraq with 139.
UPWARD MOMENTUM IN MORTGAGED SALES
Mortgaged housing sales increased by 87.4 percent in September compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 15,825. The share of mortgaged sales within total housing sales was 11.2 percent.
Mortgaged housing sales in the January-September period decreased by 42.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 92,310.
In September, 3,685 mortgaged housing sales were first-hand sales, while 21,702 were recorded in the January-September period.
Other housing sales increased by 32.8 percent in September compared to the same month of the previous year, rising to 125,094.
The share of other sales within total housing sales was 88.8 percent.
Other housing sales in the January-September period increased by 15.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 854,926.
NEW HOUSING SALES INCREASED BY 47 PERCENT
In September, first-hand housing sales increased by 47.1 percent, rising to 44,858.
The share of first-hand housing sales within total housing sales was 31.8 percent. First-hand housing sales in the January-September period increased by 12 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 300,879.
In the same period, the number of second-hand housing sales also increased by 33.1 percent, rising to 96,061. The share of second-hand housing sales within total housing sales was 68.2 percent.
Second-hand housing sales in the January-September period increased by 2.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 646,357.
