Housing sales hit a record in May

In Turkey, housing sales reached 130 thousand 25 in May, showing an increase of 17.6 percent on an annual basis.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the housing sales data for May. Across Turkey, housing sales increased by 17.6 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 130 thousand 25.

MOST SALES IN ISTANBUL, LEAST SALES IN ARDAHAN

The provinces with the highest number of housing sales were Istanbul with 22 thousand 103, Ankara with 11 thousand 975, and İzmir with 7 thousand 817, respectively. The lowest number of housing sales were recorded in Ardahan with 48, Bayburt with 67, and Gümüşhane with 91.

25 PERCENT INCREASE COMPARED TO LAST YEAR

In the January-May period, housing sales reached 584 thousand 170, an increase of 25.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

LARGE INCREASE IN MORTGAGED SALES

In May, mortgaged housing sales across Turkey rose by 95.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 19 thousand 412. The share of mortgaged sales in total housing sales was determined to be 14.9 percent. In the January-May period, mortgaged housing sales showed an increase of 98.7 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 88 thousand 606.

In May, 4 thousand 674, and in the January-May period, 21 thousand 62 mortgaged housing sales were made as first-hand sales.
