The Revenue Administration has issued incorrect notifications because the rental payment option was selected in payments made for certain crypto asset transactions. As a result, thousands of citizens received a rental income notification message. So, what should citizens who do not have rental income but received this message do? Social Security Expert Özgür Erdursun provided the answer to this question.

The rental income tax return filing process, which is important for real estate owners, has begun. However, the Revenue Administration sent the same notification message to both those who have rental income and thousands of citizens who do not. This situation caused panic among citizens who do not own property.

THOSE WHO RECEIVED THIS MESSAGE SHOULD FILE A PETITION

Social Security Expert Özgür Erdursun stated in a post on social media that citizens who received the message should not panic. Erdursun pointed out that the Revenue Administration is treating people who do not have rental income as if they had earned rental income.

Özgür Erdursun said that citizens who do not own property but received a rental notification message should log into the Digital Tax Office system and file a petition through the Ready-to-File Tax Return section stating that they have no rental income. He also reminded that the Revenue Administration may request an explanation regarding payments received into accounts.

WHO DOES NOT NEED TO FILE A RENTAL INCOME TAX RETURN?

For the year 2024, there is no need to file a tax return for residential rental income earnings up to 33,000 TL. Those who earn more than 33,000 TL in rental income must prepare their tax returns by applying a 15% lump-sum expense deduction to the portion exceeding this amount.
