The 2024 Witness Fee Tariff regarding the payment of a daily fee of up to 60 to 100 Turkish Lira to individuals for testimonies during criminal proceedings has been published in the Official Gazette.
According to the tariff prepared by the Ministry of Justice, witnesses summoned by the public prosecutor, presiding judge, or judge during criminal proceedings will be paid a daily fee of up to 60 to 100 Lira, proportional to the time lost due to their testimony.
This rate was applied as 40 to 80 TL in 2023.
If the witness has had to travel to be present, their travel expenses as well as accommodation and meal expenses at the location where they were summoned to testify will also be covered.
The compensation and expenses to be paid to the witness will be paid without any taxes or duties being deducted. In accordance with the tariff, expenditures made from the state treasury will be considered as litigation expenses pursuant to Article 324 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The tariff will enter into force on January 1, 2024.
