Increase in passenger numbers at airports in Istanbul

The number of passengers at airports in Istanbul, where a total of 113 million 266 thousand 985 people traveled last year, saw a 19 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Passenger traffic, which had decreased significantly worldwide and in Turkey during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, began to rise from the beginning of 2022. The upward trend that started the previous year continued in 2023.

According to information compiled from the website of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ), 76 million 236 thousand 980 passengers traveled through Istanbul Airport last year, with 18 million 22 thousand 61 on domestic flights and 58 million 214 thousand 919 on international flights.

An 18 percent increase in passengers was calculated for the airport, which was used by a total of 64 million 518 thousand 73 passengers in 2022.

At Sabiha Gökçen Airport, a total of 37 million 30 thousand 5 passengers arrived and departed last year, with 17 million 661 thousand 416 on domestic flights and 19 million 368 thousand 589 on international flights, compared to the 30 million 737 thousand 854 people hosted the previous year. A 20 percent increase in passengers was calculated at the airport last year compared to 2022.

In 2023, a total of 113 million 266 thousand 985 people traveled through Istanbul airports, with 35 million 683 thousand 477 on domestic flights and 77 million 583 thousand 508 on international flights.

In 2023, 18 million 11 thousand 58 more passengers were added to the number of passengers flying from Istanbul, which was 95 million 255 thousand 927 the previous year. It was calculated that the number of passengers increased by 19 percent.

FLIGHT NUMBERS ALSO INCREASED

Along with passenger numbers, the number of arrivals and departures carried out from Istanbul airports also showed an increase last year.

Records show that a total of 506 thousand 55 flights were organized at Istanbul Airport in 2023, with 126 thousand 343 on domestic flights and 379 thousand 712 on international flights.

An increase of 80 thousand 203 flights and 19 percent was calculated for 2023 at the airport, where a total of 425 thousand 852 flights were made the previous year.

At Sabiha Gökçen Airport, a total of 227 thousand 234 flights were carried out last year, with 107 thousand 292 domestic and 119 thousand 942 international. The number of flights in 2023 increased by 13 percent at the airport, where a total of 200 thousand 233 flights were organized the previous year.

At Atatürk Airport, 25 thousand 204 flights were made in 2023, with 15 thousand 281 on domestic flights and 9 thousand 923 on international flights.

Statistics show that 758 thousand 493 flights were carried out from Istanbul airports in 2023, and 654 thousand 357 in 2022.

It was determined that the number of flights last year showed a 16 percent increase compared to 2022.
