Increased by 56 percent: The 6-month bill for the Build-Operate-Transfer model has been revealed

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has announced its financial data covering the January-June period of 2024. 

The increase in the ministry's expenditures in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 drew attention. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's expenditures in the January-June 2024 period rose from 72.5 billion TL to 112.9 billion TL, an increase of 56 percent compared to the same period last year. The largest increase in 2024 occurred in the "Social Security Premium Expenses" item.

According to the report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün; The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's expenditure in the first half of 2024 was calculated as 112 billion 997 million 892 thousand TL. The ministry's personnel expenses were 1 billion 165 million 482 thousand TL, while goods and services procurement expenses were 61 million 63 thousand TL.

TOTAL OF 53.9 BILLION IN CURRENT TRANSFERS

Expenditures made under the "Current Transfers" item, which saw a 66 percent increase in the first half of 2024 compared to the first half of 2023, were recorded as 53 billion 933 million 763 thousand TL. The details of the "Current Transfers" heading in the ministry's financial data revealed the magnitude of the spending under the "Transfers to Households" item. In the first half of 2024, 2 billion 830 million 155 thousand TL was spent on Transfers to Households, which former Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Cahit Turan identified as the "item where payments for guarantees given to contractors are made."

BILLIONS OF LIRA TO CONTRACTORS

There has been a significant change over the years in the expenditures made by the ministry under the "Transfers to Households and Businesses" item, which also includes amounts paid to contractors. In the four and a half years covering the period from January 2020 to June 2024, the expenditures made under the "Transfers to Households and Businesses" item were as follows:

• 2020: 1 billion 778 million 781 thousand TL

• 2021: 2 billion 2 million 440 thousand TL

• 2022: 4 billion 42 million 732 thousand TL

• 2023: 6 billion 295 million 837 thousand TL

• 2024 (January-June): 2 billion 830 million 155 thousand TL
