Index contract opens lower in VIOP (May 21, 2024)

The June-dated BIST 30 index contract on the Borsa Istanbul Derivatives Market (VIOP) opened the day at 12,200.00 points, down 0.1 percent.

The June-dated index contract on the Borsa Istanbul Derivatives Market (VIOP) traded at 12,200.00 points in the opening session, 0.1 percent below the previous normal session close.

Yesterday, the index contract followed a buying-weighted trend, completing the normal session at 12,210.00 points, 0.8 percent above its previous close. The index contract fell to 12,192.25 points in the evening session.

Analysts stated that global equity markets are following a mixed trend following "cautious" guidance from US Federal Reserve (Fed) officials, adding that in addition to the expected continued statements from bank officials today, the speech to be delivered by European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has become the focus of investors.

Domestically, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, who made evaluations regarding the agenda yesterday, stated that they are determined to reduce inflation, saying, "We will not take a step back in fiscal, monetary, and income policies to reduce inflation to 14 percent next year and to single digits the following year."
