Inflationary pressure continues in the US! PPI exceeds expectations

US Producer Price Index (PPI) data for January has been released. Accordingly, the PPI showed a 0.3% increase on a monthly basis in January, while recording a 0.9% increase on an annual basis. These figures came in above market expectations.

Similar increases above expectations were also observed in core indicators. The producer price index excluding food and energy rose by 0.5% on a monthly basis in January. The expectation was for a 0.1% increase.

A 0.6% increase on a monthly basis was noted in the producer price index excluding food, energy, and trade. The expectation for this data had been set at 0.1%.

A similar situation was observed in annual core indicators. The producer price index excluding energy and food showed a 2% increase in January compared to the previous year. The expectation was for an annual increase of 1.6%.
