IPA report reveals: Istanbul's three major problems and citizens' stress levels measured

The Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA) has published the May 2024 results of its 'Istanbul Barometer' survey.

ISTANBUL'S PROBLEMS

According to the participants, the top three problems in Istanbul were identified as transportation at 55.8%, economic problems at 49.8%, and the potential Istanbul earthquake at 44.9%. 

ISTANBUL RESIDENTS STAYING IN ISTANBUL FOR THE HOLIDAY

Participants were also asked what they would do during the Eid al-Adha holiday. 22.2% of participants, who usually spend their holidays outside of Istanbul, stated that they would be in Istanbul this holiday due to economic reasons.

13.9% of participants stated that they would go on vacation by cutting back on holiday expenses due to economic reasons.

ONLY 20 PERCENT CAN SAVE MONEY

According to the survey, in May, 18.6% of participants stated that they could not make some payments and went into debt, 27% stated that they were actually struggling to make ends meet, 34.5% stated that they were barely getting by, and 19.9% stated that they were able to make ends meet and even save money. 

Participants were also asked what path should be followed regarding stray animals. According to the responses, 36.3% of participants stated that they should be allowed to live outside by providing vaccination, care, and neutering, and that aggressive ones should be collected in shelters; 33.4% stated that they should all be collected and cared for in shelters; and 16.5% stated that they should be allowed to live outside by providing vaccination, care, and neutering.

CITIZENS ARE STRESSED AND ANXIOUS

Participants were also asked about their emotional states in May and were asked to rate them out of 10. The average stress level of Istanbul residents was measured at 6.9, and the anxiety level at 5.8.
