Istanbul's September inflation announced: Monthly rise continues
According to ITO data, retail prices in Istanbul increased by 3.90 percent and wholesale prices by 4.67 percent in September 2024. On an annual basis, the increase in retail prices was recorded at 59.18 percent.

According to the statement made by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), in September 2024 in Istanbul, the Wage Earners' Cost of Living Index, which is an indicator of retail price movements, increased by 3.90 percent compared to the previous month, while the Wholesale Price Index, which reflects wholesale price movements, increased by 4.67 percent.
While the increase in retail price movements on an annual basis was 59.18 percent, it had been 61.57 percent last month.
"The rate of change compared to the same month of the previous year, showing price changes in September 2024 compared to September 2023, was 59.18 percent in the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce's (ITO) 1995-based Wage Earners' Cost of Living Index, and 47.89 percent in the Wholesale Price Index.
In September 2024, compared to the previous month, retail prices saw an increase of 14.62 percent in the Other Expenditures group, 13.24 percent in the Culture, Education and Entertainment Expenditures group, 6.67 percent in the Clothing Expenditures group, 4.18 percent in the Housing Expenditures group, 3.62 percent in the Household Goods Expenditures group, 2.63 percent in the Food Expenditures group, and 0.72 percent in the Health and Personal Care Expenditures group; a decrease of -0.35 percent was observed in the Transportation and Communication Expenditures group.
In September 2024, compared to the previous month, wholesale prices saw an increase of 13.72 percent in the Textiles group, 6.83 percent in the Raw Materials group, 5.48 percent in the Construction Materials group, 4.43 percent in the Chemical Substances group, 2.61 percent in the Foodstuffs group, 2.60 percent in the Metals group, and 2.01 percent in the Fuel and Energy Materials group."
