The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) has announced Istanbul's inflation rate for April. In April 2024, the Wage Earners' Cost of Living Index, which indicates retail price movements in Istanbul, increased by 4.89 percent compared to the previous month, while the Wholesale Price Index, which reflects wholesale price movements, increased by 4.87 percent.
According to the statement, the rate of change compared to the same month of the previous year, which shows price changes in April 2024 compared to April 2023, was 78.81 percent in the ITO 1995-based Wage Earners' Cost of Living Index and 65.94 percent in the Wholesale Price Index.
INCREASE OBSERVED IN EXPENDITURES
In April 2024, compared to the previous month, retail prices showed an increase of 23.85 percent in the Clothing Expenditures group, 5.30 percent in Household Goods Expenditures, 4.88 percent in Culture, Education and Entertainment Expenditures, 4.84 percent in Food Expenditures, 2.22 percent in Transportation and Communication Expenditures, 1.45 percent in Housing Expenditures, 0.88 percent in Health and Personal Care Expenditures, and 0.03 percent in Other Expenditures.
In April 2024, compared to the previous month, wholesale prices showed an increase of 17.93 percent in the Textiles group, 13.36 percent in the Construction Materials group, 7.27 percent in the Minerals group, 5.40 percent in the Chemical Substances group, 3.03 percent in the Foodstuffs group, 1.73 percent in the Raw Materials group, and 0.27 percent in the Fuel and Energy Materials group.
