Statement from ITO President Avdagiç regarding terrorist leader Öcalan's call: 'As the business world, we find it positive'

ITO President Şekib Avdagiç stated, "As the business world, we find the 'Call for Peace and a Democratic Society,' which will end the 41-year-old terror and make our brotherhood indivisible, to be positive."

Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) President Şekib Avdagiç made a statement on his social media account regarding the call by Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, for the PKK to lay down its arms and dissolve itself.

In his statement, Avdagiç expressed the view that, "With our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's goal of a Turkey without terror, Mr. Devlet Bahçeli's historic initiative, and social support, we are closer to a result than ever before."

Şekib Avdagiç noted the following in his message:

"As the business world, we find the 'Call for Peace and a Democratic Society,' which will end the 41-year-old terror and make our brotherhood indivisible, to be positive.

Most importantly, we hope that the call to 'lay down arms and dissolve' will be concluded properly, in its entirety, and in a short time. We believe that in this way, our country will be freed from the vice in which it has been squeezed for nearly half a century, and will move toward a bright future more rapidly and in the most powerful way possible.

With the sweat of our brows shed together now replacing the blood of brothers that has been shed for 41 years—fueled by foreign circles—Turkey will reveal its true potential in its development, progress, and democratization.

Without forgetting our pains, the tears of our mothers, and the great sacrifices of our martyrs for even a moment, we see this historic opportunity as important for the future of our country."
