Iyzico has announced its shopping statistics for the 2023 Black Friday period. Stating that they had a very successful Black Friday period this year with the 110 thousand member merchants they serve, iyzico reported that the transaction volume at its member merchants on Friday, November 24, 2023, increased by 70 percent compared to last year. The average basket size rose by 75.6 percent, increasing from 652 TL to 1,145 TL.
The average basket size for "Pay with iyzico," the digital wallet, rose from 1,072 TL last year to 2,000 TL this year, showing an 86.3 percent increase compared to the previous year. The share of the digital wallet method in payment preferences was 18 percent.
Looking at the gender distribution, 61.3 percent of the transaction volume on Black Friday was carried out by women, while 38.7 percent was carried out by men. It was noted that women used "Pay with iyzico" 1.23 times more than men in their transactions.
When we look at the categories shopped in according to gender distribution, women stood out in the ready-to-wear, cosmetics, and children & baby categories, respectively, while men stood out with their shopping transactions in the computer, computer hardware & software, auto parts & accessories, and car rental categories.
MARMARA REGION IS AT THE TOP AGAIN
While the Aegean Region was at the top in transaction volume growth last year, the region that increased its transaction volume the most this year was the Black Sea region with 86.3 percent. Furthermore, the Black Sea Region stands out as the region where women performed the most transactions, with a 75 percent transaction rate. In the 2023 Black Friday report card, the Marmara Region stood out by accounting for 63.5 percent of transactions and 52 percent of the volume.
While Düzce was the province that increased the number of transactions the most during the campaign period with a 15 percent increase, the city that increased its transaction volume the most was Iğdır with a 145 percent increase. Istanbul maintained its top spot from last year as the city with the most transactions. 70 percent of total transactions took place in the cities of Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.
The provinces with the most shopping outside of Istanbul and their percentage shares in shopping are as follows: Ankara (8.4 percent), Izmir (6.3 percent), Antalya (2.4 percent), Bursa (2.3 percent), Kocaeli (1.8 percent).
THE RANKING IN CATEGORIES DID NOT CHANGE THIS YEAR EITHER
The categories that increased their transaction penetration the most during the 2023 Black Friday period did not show any change compared to last year. Clothing took the first place, followed by food and entertainment categories. However, the food sector doubled compared to last year, achieving an increase of 110 percent.
THE WINNER OF INSTALLMENT TRANSACTIONS THIS YEAR IS 3 INSTALLMENTS
In the shopping carried out this year, credit card usage increased by 1.2 points compared to last year, reaching 60 percent. While the rate of consumers paying with a single payment this year was 75 percent, the installment transaction rate was 25 percent. 76 percent of these installment transactions were made with 3 installments. Transactions with 3 installments increased by 2 points compared to last year.
