January inflation announced for Istanbul
In the first month of 2026, the highest monthly increases in consumer prices in Istanbul were recorded in the health and transportation sectors. The annual increase in the price index was also notable.

The rates of change in the consumer price index in Istanbul for January 2026 have been determined. Compared to the same month last year, prices rose by 36.15 percent during the period. On a monthly basis, the price increase was calculated at 4.56 percent.
The most significant price increases in January occurred in the health and transportation categories. While health expenditures saw an increase of 11.94 percent, this rate was 9.96 percent in transportation. Increases of 8.52 percent were seen in miscellaneous goods and services, and 6.22 percent in restaurants and hotels.
Increases were also recorded in other expenditure groups such as household goods, food and non-alcoholic beverages, communication, recreation and culture, housing, education, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
On the other hand, a different picture emerged in the clothing and footwear expenditure group; prices in this area decreased by 2.32 percent. While the impact of the winter season on certain products became evident in the food group, public-led price adjustments and market conditions were influential in the increases in health, transportation, and various services. Rising prices in restaurants and hotels drew attention.
As of January 2026, while price changes were felt at different rates across various expenditure groups, the double-digit increase observed in the health sector stood out. Thus, while health expenditures became the group with the highest price increase in the city, a decline was experienced in clothing and footwear.
