According to the 1995-based data from the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), in January 2024 in Istanbul, the Wage Earners' Cost of Living Index, which is an indicator of retail price movements, increased by 6.72 percent compared to the previous month, while the Wholesale Price Index, which reflects wholesale price movements, increased by 4.69 percent.
The annual change rate, which shows price changes in January 2024 compared to January 2023, was 76.17 percent in the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) 1995-based Wage Earners' Cost of Living Index and 61.48 percent in the Wholesale Price Index.
7.58 PERCENT INCREASE IN HOUSING
In January 2024, compared to the previous month, retail prices saw an increase of 25 percent in health and personal care, 20.67 percent in transportation and communication, 8.94 percent in other expenditures, 7.58 percent in housing, 5.51 percent in food, 4.49 percent in household goods, and 2.81 percent in culture, education, and entertainment, while a decrease of 3.87 percent was observed in the clothing group.
In January 2024, compared to the previous month, wholesale prices saw an increase of 13.22 percent in the Construction Materials group, 11.16 percent in the Chemical Substances group, 6.97 percent in the Foodstuffs group, 4.12 percent in the Fuel and Energy Materials group, and 1.90 percent in the Raw Materials group, while a decrease of -4.52 percent was observed in the Metals group. No price change was observed in the Textiles group.
