Following tax and exchange rate increases, the impact of rising oil and international product prices is leading to successive hikes in fuel prices.
According to information provided by industry sources, a price increase of 1 lira and 64 kuruş per liter will be applied to gasoline, effective from tonight.
Diesel prices were increased by 2 lira and 3 kuruş last night.
WHAT WILL THE NEW PRICES BE?
With tonight's hike, the price per liter of gasoline will rise to approximately 38.51 TL in Istanbul, 39.08 TL in Ankara, and 39.19 TL in Izmir.
The price per liter of diesel is currently at approximately 39.99 TL in Istanbul, 40.53 TL in Ankara, and 40.71 TL in Izmir.
Prices vary between provinces, districts, and fuel stations.
WAVE OF HIKES AFTER THE ELECTION
Before the May 14 elections, the price per liter was 19.81 TL for gasoline and 18.58 TL for diesel in Istanbul.
In the approximately three and a half months since the election, the rate of increase for diesel has exceeded 105 percent. The rate of increase for gasoline has reached 95 percent.
The government, which kept exchange rates stable before the election by selling reserves and implementing tax cuts, allowed the exchange rate to rise and implemented historic tax hikes immediately after the election.
Fuel prices, which saw double digits for the first time by exceeding 10 TL in December 2021, have quadrupled in just 21 months, surpassing 40 TL.
