Market price app exposes opportunism: Same product, same neighborhood, but twice as expensive!
Price differences on supermarket shelves have caused astonishment. The Ministry of Industry and Technology's 'market price' app has revealed that the same products are being sold in chain supermarkets in the same neighborhood with price differences of up to double. Consumer associations are proposing a new price tag system to prevent this imbalance.

The "market price" app launched by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, while offering consumers the most affordable price options, has also laid bare the significant price differences in some chain supermarkets.
It has been determined that the prices of the same products can vary by up to double in supermarkets located in the same neighborhood. Consumer associations argue that the "Recommended Retail Price" tag should be made mandatory to prevent this issue.
According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, the app has revealed that price differences have reached striking levels. For example, a cleaning product of brand X sold for 129 TL in one chain supermarket was found to be as high as 265 TL in another. This large price gap has caused intense reactions on social media.
Consumer Confederation President Aydın Ağaoğlu emphasized that this application is beneficial for consumers, stating that supermarkets with high prices could lose customers and suffer economic losses. Ağaoğlu also reminded that it is against the law for supermarkets to make price agreements among themselves, and expressed that it is important for consumers to file complaints with the relevant authorities when they see large price differences.
