Gold, which entered an upward trend due to increasing uncertainties in global financial markets and a series of harsh messages from US President Donald Trump, reached a historic level this week. Spot gold hit an all-time high of 5,595 dollars. However, following this level, prices turned downward as profit-taking kicked in.

Trading at around 5,450 dollars on January 30, 2026, gold experienced a sharp decline in a short period. This drop in international markets caused widespread volatility in commodity markets.

THE SHARPEST DAILY DROP IN 46 YEARS

While the XAUUSD parity rose to 5,450 dollars during the night, it fell to 4,682 dollars by the evening hours. The 14.11 percent loss experienced during the day was recorded as the sharpest single-day drop in gold prices in the last 46 years.

The 768-dollar loss in value seen on the same day stood out as the largest drop in the history of gold in terms of amount.

WARNING TO INVESTORS FROM EXPERTS

Experts emphasized that investors should stay away from leveraged transactions in particular, while warning them to maintain their current positions. It was also stated that the volatile course in gold prices could continue throughout the year.
