Mehmet Şimşek’s ‘bonus’ complaint to Erdoğan: Why did we impose all these taxes?

It has been claimed that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision after AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that a 5,000 TL bonus would also be paid to working retirees.

The government's decision to grant a 5,000 TL bonus only to non-working retirees caused disappointment among working retirees.

While this distinction among retirees sparked controversy, the government took a step back and decided to pay the 5,000 TL bonus to working retirees as well.

ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT IS UNCOMFORTABLE

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s steps toward the local elections have reportedly unsettled the economic management team.

ŞİMŞEK’S COMPLAINT TO ERDOĞAN

Nuray Babacan from Gazete Pencere included striking behind-the-scenes information in her column today. According to Babacan, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek complained about the decision to grant the 5,000 lira bonus to working retirees as well.

"While the ruling party tries to cope with local election preparations, the economic crisis, and uncontrollable developments in foreign policy, all of these have interesting reflections within the party," wrote Babacan, adding, "It has emerged that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, who is trying to close the budget deficit, complained about the bonus for retirees. Furthermore, it is said that President Tayyip Erdoğan held a three-hour election meeting in Istanbul. In short, you can find everything in the AKP corridors."

Babacan included the following statements in her article:

ŞİMŞEK DEFEATED ONCE AGAIN

"Starting with the retiree bonus, the payment, which turned into a complete crisis, drew public reaction because it excluded working retirees. Before the elections, the AKP was forced to pay the bonus to all retirees due to pressure from its base. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, who believed that January should be awaited for arrangements regarding retirees, was defeated once again.

BUDGET DEFICIT PROBLEM

It was learned that Şimşek, referring to the tax regulations he implemented a while ago to close the budget deficit, said, “Why did we impose all these taxes then to generate 30 billion lira in revenue?” Moves aimed at local elections are unsettling the economic management."
