Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, together with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, will announce the Public Savings Package on May 13.
Details regarding the package, which has drawn public attention, have emerged. While the areas where savings will be made in the package in question have been determined, expenditures will also be cut by more than 10 percent. Sanctions will be imposed on managers who do not comply with the savings measures.
AREAS FOR PUBLIC SAVINGS DETERMINED
According to the report in the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, all public expenditures have been itemized, and the areas where savings will be made have been determined. Cuts of more than 10 percent will be made in every area, from stationery expenses to the purchase or leasing of new vehicles and buildings, from fixture expenditures to representation and hospitality expenses, and from energy and water expenses to in-service training expenditures. A 15 percent cut will be made to investment appropriations. It was stated that more than 100 billion liras will be saved in the second half of the year with these cuts.
SANCTIONS FOR MANAGERS WHO DO NOT COMPLY WITH SAVINGS RULES
The imposition of sanctions on public managers who do not comply with the savings rules will also be on the agenda. It is noted that these sanctions will be administrative in nature, and that disciplinary investigations or sanctions similar to the crime of negligence of duty will be brought to the agenda for public managers who do not comply with the rules.
TWO DIFFERENT PATHS WILL BE FOLLOWED IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PACKAGE
Two separate paths will be followed regarding the implementation of the new savings and efficiency package to be announced. Some measures will be put into practice through administrative regulations. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) will step in for steps that require legislative changes. In this context, the necessary legal regulations will be rapidly submitted to Parliament.
