MHP objects to AKP's tax regulation

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Planning and Budget Committee convened under the chairmanship of AKP Samsun Deputy Mehmet Muş. The committee discussed the 36-article "Draft Law on Amendments to Tax Laws and Certain Laws and Decree-Law No. 631," which was submitted to Parliament by the AKP last Friday.

During the meeting, a notable objection came from the People's Alliance partner, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

MHP'S KALAYCI: "THE ARTICLES DO NOT REFLECT THE RATIONALE"

MHP Konya Deputy Mustafa Kalaycı recalled the rationale behind the regulation, stating that it aims to strengthen tax justice and combat the informal economy. However, Kalaycı noted that the content of the proposal does not meet these goals:

"When you look at the rationale for this draft law, it mentions strengthening tax justice, including areas outside the tax scope, and combating the informal economy; the rationale is truly good, but do the articles support it? In my opinion, they do not. Because when we look at the regulations made, we are introducing increases in premium rates and some taxes. It is truly not possible to see this as a regulation that ensures tax justice."

"WE MUST REFORM THE TAX SYSTEM"

Kalaycı stated that a fair system must be established in Turkey where everyone pays taxes according to their financial capacity. In this regard, he expressed that taking reformist steps is mandatory:

"We are obliged to create a tax system that will ensure tax justice, where everyone pays taxes according to their financial capacity. We must take the necessary reformist steps in this regard."

"TAXPAYERS CANNOT PAY THEIR TAX AND PREMIUM DEBTS"

MHP's Kalaycı also drew attention to the economic pressure that tightening policies have placed on citizens. Stating that tradespeople, employers, and farmers are under a financial burden, Kalaycı expressed that demands for debt restructuring are increasing:

"As the Nationalist Movement Party, the primary demand we receive from society is for the restructuring of tax and social security premium debts. Due to the impact of these tightening policies, taxpayers, employers, our tradespeople, and our farmers are truly struggling to pay their tax and premium debts due to the burden of financing and interest."
