Midnight hike in diesel prices: Exceeding 80 liras in many cities

While recent fluctuations in the energy market have negatively impacted fuel prices, according to the latest statement from industry representatives, a 2.52 TL increase will be applied to the price of a liter of diesel starting tonight. This increase will push the price of a liter of diesel, which had recently fallen below 80 TL due to previous price cuts, back above the 80-lira level in some cities, particularly in the eastern provinces.

HOW MUCH WILL DIESEL COST?

In provinces such as Hakkari, Mardin, Muş, Siirt, Şırnak, Tunceli, and Van, the pump price of diesel will exceed 80 TL following this hike. It will be 77.39 liras in Istanbul, 78.52 liras in Ankara, and 78.79 liras in Izmir.

The primary reason cited for the increase is the ongoing supply shortage in energy markets due to disruptions in ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Volatility in global crude oil prices and developments in international markets have a direct impact on fuel prices in Turkey.

Fuel prices vary from city to city. The underlying reason for this difference lies in transportation costs and the geographical location of the provinces. The fact that the main fuel distribution centers in Turkey are concentrated in the western regions leads to prices remaining at more affordable levels in western provinces. For transportation to eastern provinces, the higher distance and logistics expenses are reflected in pump prices as price hikes.

The sliding scale system (eşel mobil) that recently came into effect has also failed to prevent the rise in diesel prices. Consumers are closely monitoring whether there will be further hikes in the coming days in response to the increases in fuel prices.
