Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Türk-İş) President Ergün Atalay visited the cemetery in Soma yesterday (November 18) where 301 miners who lost their lives were laid to rest.

Speaking to journalists, Atalay made statements regarding the minimum wage hike that millions of citizens are eagerly awaiting. Atalay stated that while the 27 percent tax bracket was previously reached in six months, it is now reached in April, and that a regulation regarding taxes must be made.

"WORKERS WILL ALSO BE AT THE TABLE IN THE COMMISSION"

Stating that workers will be at the table in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, Atalay said, "They will explain how they cannot make ends meet with this money. Those living it will sit there themselves. There will be both women and men."

Regarding what the minimum wage will be, Atalay said, "Unfortunately, when the minimum wage is announced in our country, price hikes come to meat, milk, rent, everything, everywhere. If you say 'Yes' to the minimum wage right now and sign it, the minimum wage salary will be effective on February 1st. There is currently a 2.5-month period until February 1st. Since there is time until then, there is no point in talking about it. It is necessary to talk at the right time."
