Minister Şimşek's 'hot money' statement: 'I did not ask anyone for money'

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek spoke at the 3rd Future of Finance Summit held in Istanbul.

Şimşek said, "Our risk premium has fallen, which is very important. Our country's risk premium (CDS) is currently at the 284 level. Our goal is to bring this risk premium below 200 basis points next year. Fluctuations in the exchange rate have decreased, foreign investor interest in our country has increased, and the external debt rollover ratios of banks and the real sector are rising. With the falling current account deficit and increasing capital inflows, gross reserves have risen by 44.1 billion dollars compared to May," he said.

"WE DID NOT SAY GIVE US MONEY"

Şimşek stated that they did not request money from anyone during his overseas trips and added the following:

"They told me, 'You traveled to many countries, but money did not come to Turkey.' I replied, 'I did not ask anyone for money during my overseas trips. We did not say, 'Turkey is in urgent need of external funding, come and give us money.' I explained our program and said, 'There will be a digital transformation, come and invest.' We said, 'There will be a green transformation, come and invest.' During my overseas trips, I talked about the growth potential of the Turkish economy and the opportunities it offers."
