Ministry issues statement on smartphone installment claims
Claims that the installment limit for smartphones would be increased have been denied by the Ministry of Trade. The Ministry announced that there are no preparations on the agenda to change the current system.

The claim titled “Installment limit on smartphones is being relaxed,” which appeared in the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, quickly became a topic of public discussion. The report alleged that the 12-month installment plan, currently applicable only to devices under 20,000 TL, was planned to be extended to the 30,000-35,000 TL range and that the regulation would come into effect in June.
CLEAR STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF TRADE
Following the report in question, officials from the Ministry of Trade speaking to CNBC-e stated that no work is being carried out in the direction discussed by the public.
Ministry sources stated that there is no regulation on the agenda of the economic management regarding an increase in installment limits and made the following statement:
“There is neither such preparation nor any work on our side. No regulation regarding smartphone installment limits is being carried out by our Ministry.”
CURRENT PRACTICE TO CONTINUE
With the Ministry's statement, the current installment system valid for smartphone purchases will continue unchanged.
Accordingly, the practice will continue as follows:
- Installments of up to 12 months are available for smartphones priced at 20,000 TL and below.
- For devices over 20,000 TL, the number of installments is limited to 3 months.
