Ministry of Trade imposes 815.3 million lira in fines during inspections
The Ministry of Trade has imposed 815 million 323 thousand 796 lira in administrative fines during the first 8 months of this year in inspections involving consumers.

In a statement made by the Ministry of Trade, it was reported that the General Directorate of Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance continues its efforts without interruption to identify and prevent activities that could victimize consumers.
The statement noted that within the scope of inspection activities carried out regarding contracts, advertisements, unfair commercial practices, product safety, and price tags involving consumers, 815 million 323 thousand 796 lira in administrative fines were imposed in the first 8 months of this year, and 79 million 580 thousand 960 lira in administrative fines were imposed in August.
In this context, it was recorded that a decision was made to impose 432 million 389 thousand 365 lira in administrative fines during the January-August period for violations arising from contracts involving consumers, covering issues such as distance contracts, subscription contracts, contracts established outside of business premises, prepaid (off-plan) housing sales, timeshares, package tours, banking services, and after-sales services with unfair terms. The following statements were included in the announcement:
"Furthermore, 16 million 386 thousand 452 lira in administrative fines were imposed within the scope of market surveillance and inspection activities carried out for product safety to ensure that consumer products such as textiles, footwear, toys, stationery, childcare and usage products, and detergents are offered to the market safely, and 165 million 41 thousand 612 lira in administrative fines were imposed for violations within the scope of advertising and unfair commercial practice inspections."
INSPECTIONS CONTINUE IN THE PROVINCES
The statement indicated that 201 million 506 thousand 367 lira in administrative fines were imposed for violations detected as a result of inspections carried out by the Ministry's provincial organizations regarding price tags and the tariff and price lists of businesses providing food and beverage services such as restaurants, cafes, and patisseries, and the following assessment was made:
"As the Ministry of Trade, our field inspections and legislative efforts will continue meticulously in order to protect the interests of our consumers, ensure they reach safe products with the 'zero tolerance for unsafe products' principle, and ensure they receive quality and trouble-free service."
