Most popular foods purchased with credit cards in Turkey revealed
Garanti Payment Systems (GÖSAŞ) conducted a study summarizing expenditures made with Garanti BBVA cards and at Garanti BBVA POS terminals in 2023. According to the results of the study, which highlights eating habits, the highest credit card spending in the food and beverage sector was at doner and meatball restaurants.

According to the GÖSAŞ study, which revealed Turkey's food preferences in 2023, the highest credit card spending throughout the year was at doner and meatball restaurants, followed by kebab, pide, and burger restaurants.
TEKİRDAĞ PREFERRED DONER OVER MEATBALLS
Garanti BBVA card users in seven regions of Turkey, including cities such as Tekirdağ, Çanakkale, İzmir, Antalya, Karaman, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Mardin, Şırnak, Hakkari, Rize, Trabzon, Ordu, Sinop, and Ankara, showed a preference for doner restaurants. Outside of Tekirdağ and Çanakkale, the Marmara Region chose meatballs, positioning itself separately from this group. While only Tunceli preferred kebab, Bolu, Afyonkarahisar, Zonguldak, Amasya, Uşak, Aydın, and Bayburt preferred pide. Mersin stood out for tantuni, remaining loyal to its local dish.
PIDE WAS THE TOP CHOICE IN THE AEGEAN AND BLACK SEA REGIONS
In cities with a variety of food options above the Turkish average, Istanbul, Kocaeli, and Antalya chose burger restaurants, while in Aegean and Black Sea provinces, pide restaurants ranked at the top of the preference list. While doner/kebab took its place on tables in Central and Eastern Anatolia, lahmacun was preferred more in the Southeast compared to other cities and regions.
EDIRNE PLACED THE MOST HOME DELIVERY ORDERS
Edirne and İzmir were the cities that placed the highest proportion of home delivery orders using transactions made with Garanti BBVA cards. While Istanbul entered the research in third place, Kırklareli, Çanakkale, Tekirdağ, and Denizli stood out as provinces with high rates of home delivery orders.
